When we need to land our helicopter in cloud, darkness or bad weather we would use an ILS or ‘Instrument Landing System’ approach. Here, Flight Examiner Angus is demonstrating how to set up and execute an instrument approach in the AW139 Full Flight Simulator. ILS means that the aircraft can automatically descend towards a runway by itself, whilst the Pilot monitors the instruments until the aircraft has visibility to land.
